The Gatsby Foundation: Talking Futures

Engaging parents in young people’s choices

Hopscotch has been appointed by the Gatsby Foundation to develop and pilot a programme to engage parents, carers and guardians in their children’s career decision-making.

The programme content, which will be rigorously tested through the pilot in 2021, will support secondary schools and colleges across England to involve parents in their institution’s careers guidance offer.

Developed using high quality academic and market research and in collaboration with  careers specialists, educators, young people and parents, the new content will support conversations between parents and pupils around careers and education choices, enabling them to have informed discussions, from Year 7 onwards, about the range of pathways available.

It will be supported by a communications campaign direct to parents, to complement the activities being delivered by schools and colleges.

Hopscotch are leading a consortium made up of Four Communications, Chrysalis Research and The Bureau.

"We chose to work with Hopscotch due to their professionalism and their wealth of experience in the education and employability space. Their management, insight and guidance are proving invaluable as we progress on this project"
