Logo Lift Off

Celebrating the launch of rockets into space from UK soil

In 2022, the UK will be the first European country to host small satellite commercial launches. As well as their crucial role in our every lives, from tracking parcels to allowing our phones to work properly, around half of the different types of data needed to accurately monitor the Earth’s climate are currently collected from satellites in space. These satellites are therefore vital in taking important measurements and data to help protect our planet from climate change.

Acting as a catalyst for growth in the wider space industry, the UK Space Agency (UKSA) needed to inspire and engage young people in order to build on their excitement and interest in space and the role satellites play in protecting the Earth, as well as ultimately encourage uptake of STEAM subjects in the future.

We partnered with them to create Logo Lift Off, a UK wide competition aimed at children between the ages of 4-11, with a particular emphasis on engaging young people from underrepresented groups. Children were challenged to design a logo to go on the rockets representing the satellites’ important mission. Supporting STEAM lesson plans and activities also helped them develop their understanding of the impact of climate change whilst providing inspiration for their logo design.
